Discovery Series

The Discovery Series are free lectures and interactive demonstrations presented by Lee's Summit Cultural Arts to increase the understanding of how arts, science, history and more impact our community and provide the opportunity to learn and discuss a variety of unique topics. Lectures take place at various locations throughout the City. Due to space limitations, registration is required for all lectures.

If you have a topic you would like to present to the community as part of the Discovery Series, email your name, topic and how you are knowledgeable about the topic. You will be provided with information on how to complete a full proposal for consideration.

Neon NightsTalk and Walking Tour

Speakers: Dave Eames and Ben Wine, Fossil Forge Designs

June 13 | 7:00 p.m.
Fossil Forge Designs
312 SE Main St. | Lee's Summit

Meet the makers behind many of Lee's Summit's neon signs. Local artists and sign makers, Dave Eames and Ben Wine have created a special evening that illuminates the magic of the neon glow. Start the evening at their Fossil Forge workshop in the heart of Downtown Lee’s Summit. Dave and Ben will discuss the history of neon signage, give a tour of their shop and demonstrate their neon sign fabrication process. Then, as the sun goes down and the warm glow of neon flickers on, enjoy the neon nights of Downtown with a twilight walking tour guided by Dave and Ben. They’ll share the stories and history behind these night-time beacons, many of which were made by them.

Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring your phone or camera to capture those perfect neon nights!

This event is free but registration is required due to limited space.
