Changes Made in Procedures for licensing Motor Scooters and Mopeds in Lee's Summit

1/25/2012 -- The City of Lee's Summit is currently reviewing the ordinances covering the licensing of motorized scooters and mopeds.  Under the current ordinance, owners of scooters and mopeds were required to license them as motorcycles with the State of Missouri. 

The State of Missouri will no longer license a moped or scooter as a motorcycle.  Therefore, it is not possible to comply with City Ordinance.  The ordinance is currently under review and when the new ordinance is made official, a new procedure will be posted here on our web page.

Special Olympics 2011

The Lee’s Summit Police Department is proud of the support it has provided to Special Olympics over the years. This year members of the department expanded their efforts by participating in multiple events. The Law Enforcement Torch Run netted $253,000 from the local agencies involved.

LSPD working with R-7 School District on School Bus Safety

The Lee’s Summit Police Department recently released a short video with helpful reminders about school bus safety. The video was produced in cooperation with the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and is designed to eliminate driver confusion when flashing yellow lights are displayed and the stop arm is extended.  Drivers are sometimes confused as to when to stop, especially when there are multiple lanes of traffic.

LSPD Welcomes two new Chaplains

The Lee’s Summit Police Department is proud to announce the addition of two new pastors to the department’s Police Chaplain program. Both of the new pastors are from Abundant Life Baptist Church located in Lee’s Summit and they are both eager to begin assisting members of the Police Department.
