09/07/09 Unattended Suitcase Causes Concern

Monday evening (09-07-09) at 5:15 p.m. an officer on patrol spotted a small suitcase wedged between two utility boxes on SW Raintree Drive near Breezy Point in a residential area. Unable to determine the contents and following safe protocol for a suspicious package the officer requested assistance from the department Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit. The road was blocked off and residents were asked to stay inside their homes or back away from the immediate area.

Upon arrival of EOD technicians the suitcase was examined and determined to pose no hazard or danger. The suitcase was opened and found to contain what could be considered trash. The scene was cleared at 8:15 p.m. and residential traffic was allowed to resume.
