March 30, 2009 the police department issued a press release requesting assistance locating a wanted subject, 36 year old Benjamin F. Wolkey (11-14-72) of Lee’s Summit. The attempt to locate was related to a January 30, 2009 offense of Statutory Sodomy involving a 6 year old female victim. Mr. Wolkey was aware he had a $100,000 cash only warrant for his arrest and was avoiding apprehension. Detectives believed he fled the metro area driving a gold 2005 Buick Rendezvous with Mo. License plate 8BJ-62H.
Through the investigation and continued pursuit of Mr. Wolkey LSPD detectives discovered he was staying in Mexico to avoid apprehension. A detective from Lee’s Summit made contact with the Port Isabel Texas Police Department, north of Brownsville Texas and the U.S. border, regarding the subject traveling to their area. With the information from the LSPD Port Isabel police located the subject Tuesday evening 08-18-09 and after a short pursuit he was apprehended and remains in custody awaiting extradition. Port Isabel provided a booking photograph of Mr. Wolkey in his current state of appearance (right side) as compared to his March 2009 booking photograph (left).
