YOU DRINK & DRIVE, YOU LOSE – DWI ENFORCEMENT
The Lee’s Summit Police Department will be participating in the statewide YOU DRINK & DRIVE, YOU LOSE campaign August 21 through September 7, 2009. During the campaign law enforcement efforts across the state will be increased in an endeavor to reduce the deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired drivers. During the enforcement effort additional officers will be on-duty by way of grant funding which will not reduce normal patrol operations.
Driving while intoxicated is one of the most common violent crimes, randomly killing or injuring someone in Missouri every 1.7 hours. These tragedies are preventable when drivers make a simple, smart choice not to drink and drive. Each person is a part of the solution and should consider the following tips:
· Don’t risk it – if you plan to drink, don’t drive.
· Encourage safe driving behaviors among family, friends and co-workers.
· Choose a designated driver before going out.
· Party hosts should include alcohol-free beverages.
· Report impaired drivers to law enforcement.
And, always wear your seat belt – it’s your best defense against an impaired driver.
