Lee’s Summit, Mo. – On Friday, December 16th, 2011 at approximately 12:30 a.m. the Lee’s Summit Police responded to the area of 291 Highway and NE Deerbrook Terrace on an accident involving a motor scooter and a pickup truck.
The driver of the motor scooter was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident investigation has revealed that in addition to the motor scooter and pickup truck, a third vehicle was involved in the accident and left the scene prior to police arrival. Information has been developed that the third vehicle struck the driver of the motor scooter after his initial impact with the truck when he was thrown into the roadway. The vehicle then fled the scene northbound on M-291 Highway.
The Lee’s Summit Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding the accident to contact Traffic Investigation Unit at 816-969-1765 or the LSPD TIPS Hotline at 816-969-1752. The accident occurred just after midnight during the overnight hours from Thursday, 12/15 into Friday 12/16/2011. Witness statements from the scene indicate that the vehicle may be a smaller sport utility vehicle or crossover. The vehicle may have damage to the right front quadrant and could also have black transfer paint on the vehicle from the victim’s helmet.
