APCO, the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials, recently announced that Communications Specialist Connie Felten of the Lee’s Summit Police Department has been chosen for the associations “Trainer of the Year” award. CMS Felten was nominated for the award by her peers for her work both inside and outside the Police Department. CMS Felten was instrumental in developing training programs for her peers at the Police Department as well as developing and distributing the first nationally recognized elementary school program called “911 for Kids”. With assistance from the Mid-America Regional Council (M.A.R.C.) , CMS Felten scheduled and trained Lee’s Summit’s elementary school children about 911 and its use. CMS Felten will be presented with her award at the association’s annual conference in Philadelphia in August. CMS Felten is a twelve year veteran of the Police Department.
