On 5/21/11 at 11:30 a.m. officers with the Lee’s Summit Missouri Police Department responded to the intersection of 291 Highway and Chipman Road on a report of a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers located the two vehicles involved, a maroon Subaru Legacy and a gray Chevrolet pickup. Witness reports indicate that the truck was travelling northbound on M-291 Highway and failed to stop for the red signal and struck the driver’s side of the Subaru which was headed west to cross the highway. The driver of the Subaru, a 55 year old male from Kansas City, Missouri was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. The accident investigation is on-going and the name of the deceased is being withheld pending next of kin notifications.
