Chipman Road Project

The City will begin the right-of-way and easement acquisition process for the Chipman Road Project in early January 2021. The preferred roadway alignment and pedestrian accommodations were selected based on project goals, resident input, property impacts, access during construction, recently completed improvements and cost. The final design is moving forward with the selected alignment and pedestrian accommodations.

Property owners are asked to provide comments regarding private items or objects related to your property that the City might not have knowledge (i.e. signs, lateral fields, business access, etc.). Public comments close at 5 p.m. on February 19 and can be submitted online below.

Chipman Road will be reconstructed from View High Drive to Bent Tree Drive. The proposed improvements will include curb and gutter, underground storm drainage, sidewalk, shared-use path and street lighting. To accommodate the roadway improvements the water main and gravity sewer will be relocated. Included in the project is a traffic signal at View High Drive and a county-funded pedestrian bridge over Chipman Road replacing the one-lane railroad bridge. The Rock Island Trail will have connections on both the north and south sides of Chipman Road.

This project will improve safety by leveling the roadway and improving sight distance. The right-of-way component will preserve the right of way for future capacity improvements.
