Building Evacuated For a Small Mercury Spill

On Wednesday, November 09, 2011, at 2:44 p.m. the Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a reported mercury spill inside of, 901 NE Independence Ave. An employee at the building reported that a blood pressure monitoring device containing mercury had broken and spilled a small amount of mercury on the floor. Staff immediately left the area and closed the door to the room.

Excessive Heat Warning

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Warning until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12th, 2011. The combination of heat and humidity can cause dangerous heat index values between 105 and 115 degrees during the afternoon hours. Proper precautions should be taken to prevent heat related illness now, and during future heat advisories and warnings.

Statewide Tornado Drill Scheduled for March 8th Postponed Until March 10th

The National Weather Service has postponed the Statewide Tornado Drill scheduled for Tuesday, March 8th at 1:30 p.m. and rescheduled it for Thursday, March 10th at 1:30 p.m. Rain and possible thunderstorms are forecast for the area on Tuesday, and to avoid confusion the drill has been rescheduled to Thursday when weather conditions are expected to be more favorable for the drill.
