Sustainability in your City

View our Sustainability Action Plan

In this age of revived environmental enthusiasm there are a lot of “buzz” words being thrown around. However words with no substance, and enthusiasm without action are pointless. City hall knows this, and through ongoing efforts to serve the people of Lee’s Summit we are tirelessly working to cultivate a balanced culture that is indeed sustainable.

The Who, What, When, Where, Why and How of Environmental Excellence at Lee’s Summit City Hall.

This page is organized around six focus areas and include prioritized strategies and actions to educate and ultimately reduce energy use and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to meet short- and long-term targets.

Focus areas include:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Transportation
  • Land Use
  • Water Conservation and Stormwater  Management
  • Waste Reduction and Management
  • Education, Advocacy, and Outreach

WHAT is sustainability?

Among the many accurate definitions that exist, sustainability is quite simply the capacity to endure.   We are learning, and acting in ways that not only provide what we need, but we are also working to ensure that our children will be able to benefit from the same tremendous quality of life

*A Sustainability Visioning Workshop was held at Legacy Park Community Center in August 2011 with the objective of establishing the City’s vision for a sustainable Lee’s Summit

THIS IS NOTHING NEW

(but its still vital to our success)

“Then I say the earth belongs to each generation during its course, fully and in its own right, (but) no generation can contract debts greater than can be paid during the course of its own existence”

Thomas Jefferson (1789)
