Earth Day 2012
Earth Day is a nationally-recognized day, scheduled on April 22nd each year, to encourage and raise awareness about ecology and the preservation of the Earth’s natural resources. In support of Earth Day, the City of Lee’s Summit tries to host events on or around April 22nd to help raise awareness about and show respect for our environment.
Upcoming Earth Day Activities:
North Recycling Center, April 21, 8am - 4pm
FREE!! Redbud seedlings, coloring books, and prizes to the first 100 kids (ages 14 and under) who recycle materials at the North Recycling Center on Saturday, April 21, 2012 between 8:00am and 4:00pm.
Athletic Shoe Collection: Give your old sneakers new life by recycling them at the North Recycling Center on April 21, 2012 (only). Each part of the shoe gets recycled into sports facility cushioning and playground surfacing.
Sweep the Summit, Date TBD
The City of Lee's Summit, in partnership with the Lee's Summit Parks & Recreation Department and the Beautification Commission, typically hosts a combined Sweep the Summit and tree planting event at a local park in support of both Earth Day and Arbor Day.
Residents of all ages are invited to help us clean up our community! Bags, gloves, and caution vests are provided, along with lunch and prizes.
