Applications Now Being Accepted for Citizens Leadership Academy

Want to obtain more knowledge about the structure of local government?
Or, are you curious about the responsibilities of the City’s departments and their locations? Then, you should complete an application for the 2017 class of the “Citizens Leadership Academy.” The academy is free and open to Lee’s Summit residents and business owners who want to gain better insight into the operations of City government as well as to prepare for greater involvement in community leadership.

November No-Tax Increase Bond Issue to Address Public Safety Issues in Lee’s Summit

On November 8, Lee’s Summit voters will be asked to consider whether or not to approve a no-tax increase general obligation bond initiative to fund public safety improvements. These improvements focus on replacing the current Fire Station No. 3, replacing older air packs for fire personnel, upgrading the radio system for public safety and improving network capability at City-owned buildings and facilities. This is not a new tax, but an opportunity for the City to re-issue debt in order to address long-term capital project needs at no additional cost to residents.

Ryan A. Elam Appointed Director of the City’s Development Center

After an extensive search, the City of Lee’s Summit is proud to announce the appointment of Ryan A. Elam, PE, as the director of the Development Center – a one-stop shop for community-wide development activity.

“I'm looking forward to helping our community grow and continuing to build strong relationships with the development community in order to better serve the citizens of Lee's Summit. It's an exciting time for the city, and together we will make Lee's Summit a preferred destination to do business,” said Elam, who began his duties with the city today, Fri., Sept. 30.

Open House Regarding Downtown Performing Arts Space & Farmer’s Market Pavilion Oct 29

The public is invited to attend an Open House meeting to provide input and feedback for the downtown Performing Arts Space and Farmer’s Market Pavilion. There are two meetings from which to choose: Wed., Oct. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m., and Sat., Oct. 29, from noon to 4 p.m., both will be held in the Howard Conference Room on the second floor of Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St.
