The Lee’s Summit Historic Preservation Commission cordially invites you to attend the annual Strawberry Lawn Fete and the presentation of the Graves/Hale Historic Preservation Award. The event will be from 2 – 4 p.m. May 16 at the historic Todd George home, 408 SE Third Street. Chocolate covered strawberries and delicate cookies will be the bill of fare. Docents will be on hand to tell the story of the Todd George family. Come and join the Lee’s Summit Historic Preservation Commission in celebrating the life and times of the Todd George family, as well as the accomplishments this year’s award recipients.
This year’s recipients of the Graves/Hale Historic Preservation Award are:
- Kurt Pycior, Pycior + Co. for his restoration of the Blackwell building, which was built to house Miller Alley Hardware (formally Hartley’s), and the sites formally known as Georges Grocery and the United States Post Office.
- Brad and Carole Culbertson for their preservation of the SE Main block and for their passion for making sure that a variety of businesses lease their buildings.
- Michele Spilker, Lesley McKeone and Leigh Ann Nelson for their meticulous restoration of the historic Todd George home. This Craftsman-style home of the George family has been lovingly restored to its former beauty and is the home of Spilker, McKeone, and Nelson’s Certified Public Accounting firm.
A special Award of Distinction will also be presented to Michael J. Gorecki who retired from the City of Lee’s Summit’s Planning and Development Department in 2009. Gorecki was the staff liaison to the Lee’s Summit Historic Preservation Commission for the last 10 years.
