City of Lee’s Summit residents that are eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) can receive free tax preparation services on Tuesday evenings in February 2012. EITC is a refundable federal income tax credit for low-income working individuals and families.
The FREE tax preparation services will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. (doors open at 5:30) on each Tuesday in February, at Lee’s Summit City Hall, 220 SE Green St. First come, first-served.
While many individual citizens are eligible for this credit, the EITC benefits increase with the number of qualifying children and credit expenditures are weighted more to larger families. This provides greater benefits to low and moderate-income families than more traditional government benefit programs, such as cash welfare or food stamps. The City of Lee’s Summit in partnership with the Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Greater Kansas City will host the program.
