The initial session of the Citizen Leadership Academy was held from January-April 2011.
The City sought citizen input to assist with program design and held several working group meetings to refine the program agenda. Final program details are being reviewed.

An alumni reception was held on June 16, 2010.

The City issued an RFQ for a Community Sustainability Plan on June 10, 2010 to be funded by federal Department of Energy grant funds awarded to the city.
AE Com was selected and is assisting the City in preparing a Community Sustainaibility Plan.

Carson Bise, President of TischlerBise and creator of the City’s long-term fiscal model held an informational presentation that included:
A model overview that included update requirements for future use, especially in regard to the city’s evolving posture into redevelopment.
LS360 recommended that the City Planning Director and Planning Commission use the model in conjunction with the City Finance Department in their land use deliberations to predict fiscal sustainability.
LS360 recommends additional funds to accomplish the update and tweaking to accommodate redevelopment.
Funds for the fiscal model update are included in the City Manager's budget recommendations for FY2012. More details... |

After review of Tischler Bise & Associates proposal to update the fiscal model, and in an effort to maximize the effectiveness of the city’s use of its funds, it was decided that further internal conversations and decisions need to be made regarding both future service levels and future land use alternatives before proceeding with the fiscal model revisions.
Funding for Mr. Bise’s services is being sought during the city’s next budget cycle, for fiscal years 2011/2012. More details... |

Smart growth initiatives and 'green' building incentives are incorporated into the Comprehensive Development Plan.

Funds are reserved to prepare a comprehensive land use plan for the M-150 Corridor.
The Planning Department held an Public Open House on May 27.
It gave citizens an opportunity to participate in a “Visual Preference Survey Tool” to help the City determine the types of land uses and design standards preferred by the community and property owners.
The City issued an RFP in November 2010 to hire professional assistance in preparing a sustainable comprehensive land use plan for the area. The contract will be considered by the City Council on April 21,2011. More details... |

Discussion are underway to develop the I-470 Corridor into a 'Green' Technology Corridor.
An application was submitted to EDA to assist with planning studies to develop the area along I-470 from View High to Pryor Road into a 'Green' Technology Corridor. The application was not approved.
The City submitted an application for federal TIGR II grant money for planning along this corridor and along View High. More details... |

Randall Arendt, a landscape planner, site designer, author, lecturer, and an advocate of "conservation planning" presented to LS360 on August 30, 2010. The City of Lee’s Summit had the privilege of welcoming him once again to address the Lee’s Summit 360° citizen group and the general public to educate them on planning for sustainable growth as a community.
