The City of Lee’s Summit announced completion of roadway and street light improvements to increase safety and roadway capacity along Douglas Street. Traffic signal timing improvements and synchronization between traffic signal controlled intersections will be completed during the next several months.
This project included resurfacing Douglas Street from Mulberry Street to Chipman Road; a median extension on Douglas Street between Victoria Dr. and Tudor Road; a southbound right-turn lane at Victoria Dr.; sidewalk gap construction; and associated signal relocations and modifications at the intersections to better accommodate U-turn and left-turn traffic.
Street lighting was installed along Douglas Street between Chipman Road and Interstate 470 within the median, along with some landscaping trees.
The project, which took 6 months to complete, began in May 2011.
The Douglas Street improvements cost approximately $1,000,000 and were funded by the City’s road and bridge tax and the voter-approved 2007 No Tax Increase Bond Initiative.
