The City of Lee’s Summit will host local artist Jerry Brown at an artist reception on Thursday, October 20, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. inside City Hall-220 SE Green St., Lee’s Summit. Everyone is invited to meet Brown and view his paintings, while enjoying refreshments and wine sampling.
Brown, a native of Kirksville, Mo., graduated from Northeast Missouri State University, and earned a Master’s Degree in Studio Art from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Brown, a high school art instructor, retired after 30 years of teaching. During this time Brown continued his art work and displayed his pieces in an array of local and national galleries and art festivals. He’s earned a multitude of awards including the Purchase Award from the Pastel Society of America, New York, NY; American Watercolor Society, New York, NY; best of show in the Paseo Arts Festival, Queeny Spring Art Fairs and Webster Groves Art Fair.
Brown enjoys painting a variety of subjects including landscapes, but figurative art is his favorite. He shares his love of painting with others by teaching workshops focused on landscapes and clouds. Brown’s artwork will be on display in the lobby of City Hall until mid-January, 2012, during business hours, Monday through Friday.
